Test Piece

Overview

Test Piece is a two-player card-drafting game about brass bands. It can be played in about fifteen minutes and is intended for players who are at least twelve years old. During the game you will assume the roles of rival music directors who are competing to build the best band from a limited pool of local musicians.

As you play, you and your opponent will each draft cards sixteen cards. You will arrange your cards in a tableau with four rows and four columns. Each row and column of your tableau describes a performance, each of which will be evaluated for how well you perform in each of the four voices: soprano, tenor, alto, and bass.

At the end of the game, only your worst voice will determine your score. So, from the downbeat to the finale, you will be presented with a series of difficult choices about the tactical and strategic consequences of each card that you draft.
